Yes, I have actually hugged trees, have you ever done that? I am very interested in environmental issues, I even make my own cleaning products. This will help you understand why it was important to me to do this post. Please, take a moment to read it and then share it.
Thanks to Irish Mammy on the run I now know that a blog that gets 15,000 hits a month creates the equivalent of 8 lbs of carbon dioxide emmissions per year. I consider myself to be an environmentally friendly person so I was shocked that I hadn't thought of this aspect of my online activities. The statistic applies to any website and is something we should all be aware of in our daily browsing.
A company called kaufDA has gotten together with Arbor Day to arrange an initiative to replace trees lost in massive fires in 2007. Trees will be planted in both Germany and California. Regardless of where a tree is planted it will help reduce our carbon footprint. A tree will absorb 11lbs of carbon dioxide a year and neutralise your blog carbon emmissions for 50 years.
A quote from the 'Make your blog carbon neutral' website:
Being part of the initiative “My blog is carbon neutral” is an active contribution to help the environment! All you have to do is described here. Make it happen - make it green!
“My blog is carbon neutral” is an initiative, originally started in Germany by the “Make it Green” programme, that has the goal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. We plant a tree for your blog and thereby neutralise your blog’s carbon footprint for the next 50 years! Everyone can make a small contribution to the environment. Every tree counts!WHAT CAN YOU DO?
If you have your own blog please consider doing a post and neutralising your blogs' carbon footprint. When you have your post done email the link to CO2-neutral@kaufda.de who will include your blog in their list of participants and plant a tree on behalf of your blog.
If you are a reader of this blog please post a comment to show support for the initiative, every little bit of awareness helps spread the word.
Jen.

Hey Jen, thanks for following this initiative it is so simple and yet helps to create a tree! Make sure you email them with your blog post link and they will add it to their list and the tree will get planted. All the best, Treasa x
Ok, I am officially carbon neutral woohoo, I got this message from Make it Green Team:
Hi Jen,
thank you so much for participating in our initiative and making your blog carbon neutral! Your tree will be planted next month by the Arbor Day Foundation. We thank you for the support! I added your blog to the list of participants.
There are still some trees looking for a sponsor. So if you know some people who have a blog or website, pass it on and we'll make their blogs carbon neutral too!
Best,
Christin "Make it green!"-team
Bit confused to be honest. For someone who loves blogging and totally revels in networking and promoting a blog, is this causing damage to the environment, or should blogs be promoted even more and be environmentally friendly?
CJ xx
I don't think people are going to stop blogging CJ, nor is anyone being asked to afaik. I think this is just to raise awareness of the effects of our internet usage, blogger or not:) That is my understanding of it:) Jen.
