My Sons' 'Voice'

This is a short demo of PECS(volume isn't great so you will need to turn your volume right up).

PECS - Picture Exchange Communication System

PECS is a very effective means of communication for non-verbal children, encouraging verbal behaviours and interaction with family members, teachers and caregivers.

There is a specific method of introducing the system and it should be done under the supervision of an ABA Tutor or Speech & Language Therapist in order to ensure that each step is fully understood by our children before moving to the next step.

I love you voice and accent, you sound so calm. And this was a fantastic vlog. I've heard of these PECS but Amy has always been Very verbal so we never needed to use one. You have described it very well.

Great vlog. I'm glad I managed to open this one. Most of the vlogs just won't load for me! Great system. It might be a silly question but is sign language an option? X

vlog, love it xxx

Thanks for the comments everyone, have gotten over my embarassment now and glad I put it up:) @FoodieMummy, sign language works for some children and not others. Children with autism have difficulty imitating others which makes sign languge a much slower way of introducing communication. We use one or two signs with HRH, for us PECS is much more successful. As it happens I used baby sign language with my eldest child and we all loved it, HRH never took to it but I didn't realise why at the time. Jen.

YEA!!!! So great to actually "see" you!!! Love your accent.

And I love the PECS system. My son used it for about 6 months and then started talking. I really believe in it.

BTW, that site you shared, Jacob's Lessons; FABULOUS! He loves it and it is so good for him. It is literally an ABA class on the computer.

Jen! I LOVED this vlog. I also loved listening to your 'accent'. heh. :D

Two questions:

1. Have you heard of Voice4uaac.com? I'm using it with Parker who is also non-verbal.

2. Would you be interested in re-posting this post over at http://www.5minutesforspecialneeds.com. I'm the editor over there.

Let me know what you think!
