Making your own fun.

Does anyone plan revenge on their children? or is it just me? Maybe it is a family thing because I remember my Dad saying things such as 'Ooooh, when I am an old man you will have to............', usually in reference to things he had to do for me when I was little. Think of the things you would only do for your child that involve cleaning up, you know, puke, nappies etc.

But I digress because I should be telling you why I am plotting revenge on my child, the way my Dad used to.

Three of us in this house got a tummy bug on Monday. Mr LS and I were sick during the day. As you know parents don't get sick days so I struggled on at home while Mr LS struggled on at work because they are so busy. Firstborn didn't join in the fun until 3am on Tuesday morning when he threw up, very artistically, everywhere.

I don't hold it against him that the was sick, even if it was at silly o'clock. I do hold it against him that he woke the entire household with the dramatics that followed. Well, funnily enough, Mr LS slept through it, but hey, he was sick too! I ignored the mess until the following morning and put him into a different bed. HRH settled down very quickly with a few snuggles. The ignoring of Her Cuteness took a lot longer to work, she was all ready for chat and fun.

This is the plan; when he is 15 and trying to sleep until 1pm I am going to sing 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' in my best singing voice. I can start at 8 am, and keep going until he caves in and gets up.

Unrealistic? Of course, but the thought got me through the night and following day in good humour. Sometimes us parents just have to make our own fun!

If you haven't seen this literal version of abovementioned song take a few minutes to watch it, I promise it is one of the funniest clips I have seen in years!! It is probably healthier than planning (tongue in cheek) revenge on your children.

I have tears in my eyes from laughter oh this is so good! I once lived with an emotional housemate who seemed to have very emotional fights with her partner so each night Celine Dion at full blast until silly o'clock. I can't stand Celine Dion since that. I literally crack up when she comes on the radio, she has an extremely irritating voice so having experienced it I would recommend Celine Dion as a close 2nd to your rendition! hope you are all feeling better now x

Ha..I tell my oldest that when he is 16, I am going to wake him up and make him watch the tellietubbies with me at 1:00 in the morning..As a little guy he didn't really sleep much-well he didn't really sleep at all. Instead he would would have to be up watching the same episode of Tellietubbies over and over....and over.
My mom, when she was angry at me for staying out too late would blast Pavoratti at 7:00 in the morning while vaccuming out side my door..;0

Oh that reminds me of the days my mum used to hoover the corridor outside my bedroom, making sure she banged into every door, especially mine at 9 am on a sunday morning! She is not that much of a singer and music lover so I didn't get that. X

That's really funny ;-)

I plan revenge on my children all the time lol I even have some very good revenge photo's going when they get older - one in particular of Master Frugal in a High School Musical cheerleader outfit springs to mind!

Too funny! I tell Caleb all the time that I won't ever let him sleep in. He demands to get up every morning at 6am, even on the weekends. I can't wait for revenge!

I hope you all feel better!!

I'm so sorry to hear you've had such an awful week....but very glad to see that your wicked sense of humour is still buzzing.
I'm getting revenge on my kids already by making them take leftovers to the compost bin (yuck job) and doing other jobs that I hate...I also threaten to mortify them by giving their Dad a big wet snog at the school gate some morning...the horror on their faces at the VERY IDEA is priceless! Heeheehee.
I'm all for making our own fun...a sense of humour is all that keeps me going sometimes.
T'riffic post dolly.

Brilliant video, laughed through it!

Brillant! I'm always planning revenge too especially now with an 13 year old going on 18 year daughter ... it's actually nearly getting to the stage I can extract the revenge!

Hope you are all fully recovered!

Hey, hope you're all recovered, fighting fit and able. Bonnie Tyler is a tonic for any illness. Okay, I'm being ironic now... That vid is hilarious though. Best revenge for our kids is to get the toddler pics and vids out for their girlfriends Muhahahahahaa....

Hm. I'd like to add something constructive, except .. I can't really ... yet! My 3yo goes to sleep late (so do I) and sleeps late (given half the chance, so do I ... !
I'm sure the day is going to come.
But the video ... I'm an 80's girl, so laughed me lil socks off in places !... xx

Hope you've all recovered. There's nothing worse than being ill and having to deal with ill kids!

Loved the video - that's really set me up for the morning! Shame I watched it drinking a cuppa! ;o)

Lol @Sue, yeah, I should have put up a warning about not eating or drinking when watching it.

Had forgotten about hoovering as a revenge tool, must remember it.

Yep, it's a great video, never fails to make me laugh, a real 'pick me up'.

Thanks for the comments:)

I have a mental list of things I will use against my children, I have been able to begin already with my eldest being 13. Such an easy age to embarrass them! Fran

hahaha...nice one Jen! Thanks for the laugh. I'll have to put my thinking cap on and plan my revenge properly... it's a very serious task so it is! I enjoyed the video too...very funny! xx Jazzy

I have never seen that. Hysterical! Is that the real video? I don't remember it being that insane of a video? And what the heck does it have to do with the real words? Wow, the 80's were really freaky if we were watching that, not questioning it, and not I can't remember it. Scary...

I always remember that sign - be nice to your children as they will be choosing your nursing home! Makes me giggle! Going to lean Oli towards being rich & famous so that I can have a top notch nursing home! Hehe.. ;)

Jen said...

@Susie, yes, my parents used to say that to me too, I haven't said it to my eldest yet though:)

@Jazzy & MTTB, that is literal video and in the 80's (if you can recall!) the videos had very little to do with the actual songs so thesedays people put the words that match the video to show us how silly they really were. If you search 'literal video' on youtube there are a few. There are good ones on Meatloaf, James Blunt and A-ha:)

@Emma, yep I heard that before, must remember it. In fact, I will use that back at my Dad when he threatens me with cleaning his puke in his old age etc :D:D
