Blog Gems - Air your Archives #8

Button HTML

How many posts do you have languishing in your archives? Great posts that will never be dusted off and brought out to breathe again! Maybe you created fabulous content before you had lots of followers, or maybe you have been blogging for years and your current followers haven't seen your older material.

I have a plan.

Blog Gems - Air Your Archives is a forthnighly linky list where I will give a prompt and you select a post from your archives that fits the prompt. You do not have to create content for the prompt, unless you want to. All you have to do is copy and paste the url of the post into the linky list. Voila, an old post gets a second shot!

To take part:

1. Follow my blog to get future Blog Gem posting information and linkys.

2. Grab the Blog Gem button and place it on your sidebar (html code here or above)

Putting the button on your blog is not a dealbreaker, some people just don't like doing it and I have no problem with that at all. What I will say is that something like this can't be successful without 'word of mouth' so I would appreciate if you could find another way to let people know that this is available and they are welcome to join in.

3. Enter your link.

4. Read and comment on the submissions of the two blogs posted before you on the linky list. (Please!)

5. Help me spread the word by telling your blogging friends, either by tweeting this or blogging about your entry.

Following on from the last Blog gems where we linked up an event in our lives, I would like to continue the theme of getting to know each other a little better. This week link up a post that tells us about a holiday, any kind of holiday even just a weekend away, vacation or any few hours to yourself that are not your normal routine (bit of confusion with different transatlantic use for 'holiday' there!). This idea has been inspired by me because I am going on holidays this week *squeeee*

Broad interpretations of the prompt are encouraged!

For any newer bloggers don't worry if you have to link up posts that you have linked up before, it is very unlikely that you will end up with the same readers as last time so continue to join in and have fun. Many, many thanks to those of you that blog about Blog Gems, I really appreciate the links and help getting the meme 'out there'.

Everyone that joins in this bloghop knows about the teasing/joking around I put up with over my use of the word 'fortnight'? No? well, yeah, I do. So JoyMama at Elvis Sightings sent this along to me during the week. It is an excellent comic strip about the word 'fortnight' for your viewing pleasure! Thanks JoyMama.

Allison at Life in a Pink Fibro and I have gotten together to generate some cross-hemisphere linky love. Allison runs Weekend Rewind every weekend and is also based on posting up your favourite oldies. It is one of the friendliest bloghops I have ever taken part in! Her linky is closed now, but will be open again next weekend. Remember to go have a look!

Michelle at Mummy from the Heart has started a lovely new meme called Reasons to be Cheerful, have a look.

If you ever want to join in feel free to write a post for it and just link that up. We are very easy going about stuff like that around here :) Jen

I think we have another cross-cultural misunderstanding Jen. The Americans are linking to holidays like Mother's Day, etc. instead of "vacations". I think it says something about me that I have never blogged about a holiday...because I haven't had one since Audrey's been born!

Great topic for the link up, I love holidays!
Hope you enjoy yours :)

Oh, Lynn is so right. I just did a "holiday" too, my birthday last year. Hee hee. But it doesn't matter, because I don't go on "holiday" as in vacation ever, so I would probably link to the same post anyway.

And Jen I mention you in this old post! How funny!

Can't wait to see you on holiday this week!!! squeeeeee!!!!!

I was thinking "holiday" like Lynn also, but then realized you meant "holiday" for your soul :-) Mine is about the 19 hrs I spent away from home for the first time ever...

Ohhhhh you mean like a vacation....

Jen said...

It can be either, anything that is a break and time to yourself or time away from your normal routine:) Like I say, interpretations are welcome. I will edit to put in the word 'vacation' too.

Lynn, I nominate you as 'translator' from now on lol. I keep forgetting that other people use different words for things.......begorrah!!

Hiya, hope you don't mind but like Heather I don't have much back catalogue to link too! So I've used a previous linky post...

Hi Jen

I don't have much to link up to either, as yet (being only 27 days old!!)
So I've posted a link to a post where I managed to get hubby and daughter out of the house for a while. That's the closest I'm getting to a "holiday" around here at the moment!!
Hope that's okay?
I popped your button into my sidebar when I first participated in Blog Gems a couple of weeks ago. Will joyfully spread the word about your wonderful linky! Thanks so much!

More than a fortnight ago we were regular tent-campers. GREAT family activity! Giving my tips learned from experience. Barbara

I wavered between family holiday getaway vs. MOMMY gets away. Either kind occurs once in a blue moon, many fortnights apart... I went with a personal getaway, which included a special uplifting craft project! :-)

So I have yet to have your kind of "holiday" but I have all kinds of posts about the American version of "holiday" but nothing ever where I was on my own. Can I just cheat and link to an American holiday post???

Hi Jen, our closet thing to a holiday is going down to London and looking after our nephews, so I have added our Halloween post (which I guess embraces vacations and holidays) Yey xxxxx

Hi Jen

Love this idea as always but sometimes find it hard to write a meaningful comment, especially if posts relate to something I have no experience of. Hope it is OK if I just read them. I am just happy if people look at my blog - they don't need to write anything. Of course i always love to hear what other people think, but no pressure!

I never have time to myself, I must be doing something wrong.

Jen,
What's a vacation (i.e. holiday)? Do people really take those? haha Seriously, I'll try to post on the next Blog Gem.
Aloha,
Sue

I leave the linky open for two weeks so it won't close until the next one is available, which happens to be this Sunday :) Jen
