There was a time when he didn't even notice if I was in the room and he certainly didn't understand the concept of 'Mother'. Those days are long gone and I am enjoying every minute of my role, despite the fact that he is unwell at the moment and has spent the last couple of nights two inches from my face, following me around the bed *yawns*
These days when I say 'Love you' to him he says 'uv meeeeee'. This is very cool and he is quite proud of himself. Last night during our 'how much I love you' conversation he cut me off and ran over to Firstborn. He squatted down, went nose to nose with his big brother and said 'uv meeeee'. Firstborn hasn't reached the age of being embarrassed about things like this yet and said 'love you' to HRH and gave him a huge hug.
HRH ran back to me, pointing to Firstborn, saying 'uv meeee' then pointed to his Daddy saying 'uv meeee', sharing the information with me with a huge smile on his face. Yes son, we all love you very much. So he now understands that everyone loves him and that this is important. It really won't be long until he realises that he can say it back to us.

This post really touched me. He sounds like a very lucky boy.
Brian will repeat "Love you" but has never said it independently yet- I know he loves me beyond words, but it will still be an amazing day when he just blurts it out of nowhere ;)
Hope your day (and mine) comes soon!
Your day will come. And then, 10 years later, he will learn to use the "I love you" gambit to manipulate you in every which possible. Even then, it is still awesome to hear. Especially since my 10 year old NT daughter is going through "I refuse to say those words to you" phase.
Oh, yeah, it will come. I remember the first time Jake said that to me, the big lump in my throat. He still does, from time to time. Not as much as Ethan (who still tells me every day... and I know this will change soon, but I'm eating it up while I got it), but it's there, and I know he loves me.
And you know what? We love you, too! (but we don't hog the bed) ;-)
It won't be long Jen...and what a moment it will be!! ((HUGS))
Oh this is lovely Jen..and the day will come..sooner rather than later..:) They are powerful words..mine use them now when I catch them doing something they ought not to. for instance-standing on the table to try and grab the ceiling light..if I should walk in and catch them in the middle of it they will yell out "I love you Mama!" before I can demand to know what it is they think they are doing!
I hope your little guy feels better soon. :)
@MyNewNormal and TheHenrys thank you:)
@Heather, it will, it is only a matter of time :)
@BigDaddy, my almost 9 yo NT hasn't reached that phase yet, but I know it isn't far away!!
@Varda, lol and phew, bet you wouldn't sleep with your face 2 inches from mine either!!
@Kathleen, my older fella does that and then asks me for whatever it is he thinks I might say 'no' too. He seems to think that 'Love you Mam' will soften me up first.........and sometimes it does :D
Thanks for commenting :)
Jen
Awww. I'm sure you'll hear it soon. Such a sweet post!
xx how wonderful :O)
this is beautiful. so beautiful.
I'm sure you'll hear it soon too. I heard it recently for the first time. It takes your breath away. Sometimes the waiting makes it that much more special. And I'm not just saying that.
alysia
I can just picture him nose to nose with his brother. So sweet.
Beautiful Jen :)
@bella & Caz, yep, thanks :)
@Alysia, good point, it will be all the better for having to wait :)
@A&A, it was so funny, right up in his big brothers face :D
@Wendy, thanks :)
Thanks for commenting, appreciate it :)

What a clever little man you have, he is getting things so quickly now, definitely won't be long before he says those three little words and when he does your heart will do a backflip! My gorgeous man chose to tell me on Christmas day two years ago and I positively lit up, I still maintain it was the best xmas present anyone could have given me :)
Oh I just melted into a puddle reading this! Way to go HRH! You are such a loved little man! xxx
That is just WONDERFUL! I have a feeling you will hear those three little words very soon. Only this year Billy started saying it very occasionally without prompting. And it is glorious. Every single time.
I'm celebrating this beautiful moment with you :-)
That is perfectly adorable! I look forward to the day when you post that you heard those three little words and the tears will fall because I remember when I first heard them!
Sweet, sweet so sweet.
I am melting over here :)
I can just see him saying it, with that gorgeous smile of his, hope he says those magical words to you very soon xxx
You're so right. It's all in the eyes, the hugs, and the cuddles.
ohhh just gorgeous, Mich x
OH thats so fabulus Jen.....it will happen....he has the first part worked out!
Soooo sweet! *smile*
Barbara
That is beautiful, Jen :)
I know that there are plenty of people who never get to hear it and still know it to be true, but someone up there must have known that I needed it. For me it's a thrill every time. If it helps, I love you way way more than country music.
Jen, that is just so lovely. What an amazing little man. And how wonderful that he now knows that he is loved. Nothing more important than that.
Pop open the champers when he says those words back to you. It won't be long, I'm sure.
x0x
Congrats! That is so wonderful!
@Andra, backflip is a good word and what a fab Christmas present for you :)
@Marylin & Amanda, he sure is :D
@Lora, awww, I hope you hear them often :)
@Borgerour, melt away girl :)
@BlueSky, yes he is quite gorgeous lol.
Thanks for commenting :)
Jen
@DaniG, yes, it is, and also the fact that we call him my 'little shadow' lol
@Mich, TherExtras & Ro, thanks.
@Fi, yeah, and maybe he means it with the 'uv meeee' anyway. Got it again first thing this morning with a huge smile :)
@Lynn, I think there are days when I do need to hear it, you know the kind of days I mean!! This is such a thrill though that it will keep me going for a long time :)
@Trish, yes, I think he understands the concept more now. Abstract stuff is hard to 'teach' so it is great that he is getting how much he is loved.
@Cheryl, thanks :)
Appreciate the comments, thanks for taking the time to do so.
Jen
That is so lovely, he certainly seems to have the whole concept so I am sure that him saying it wont be that long in coming. Think this is a lovely post x
Goosebumps. I "uv" this Jen, so happy for you and for HRH to know you are loved is priceless.
I waited so long to hear Munchkin utter those three precious words and a few months ago she said themspontainously which melted my heart! Now she tells me all the time but the clever little minx uses them and the I need a cuddle words as an effective but charming escape behaviour hehe. It still melts my heart though :) xx
What a beautiful post...and beautiful moment. Thank you for sharing it.
What a lovely post, he will say it..soon...
Even when they are 34 like my DS, when they tell you they love you it is worth all the money in the world!It won't be long!
Jen this is a beautifully written and heart warming post! Bless him, and you! x
Wonderful post Jen. Your son sounds just so cute! The phase of knowing your kiddo doesn't care if you're in the room is a really tough one. I'm so glad that is over...and you're getting the "real" stuff!
I just love how he gets the concept Jen. Some NT kids start saying it because they hear their parents say it, but they don't really "get it." Jaylen gave me a certain look that said it long before he could actually say the words. That's what's important. I am so happy for you! AND soon I will be able to tell you IN PERSON!!!!
How utterly gorgeous this really made me get a lump in my throat gorgeous xx
Jen, it is so imporatant to remember the small things and to make the most of life. This post is a wonderful record of your family and made me shed hot warm tears
@SuperLM and Jessica, yeah, it is the fact that he gets the whole idea that is delighting me:)
@Petunia, hehehe, clever little girl, a good skill for her to have, her future boyfriends better watch out!
@Accidental & Brigid, thank you.
@jfb57, aawww, that is lovely :D
@Christine, thank you :D
@ChrisPM, yeah, that phase was really upsetting and it is so hard to know what to do when they don't even realise who you are!!
@MTTB, yaaaay!
@Kerry & MadHouse, yes, it is, thank you:)
Thanks for taking the time to comment, appreciate it :)
Jen
Oh this is fabulous Jen..fabulous! One of these days, real soon, when least expected he'll say it!
xx Jazzy
We're still waiting for our "uv meeeeee"s here. Jake's denfinitely calling me "da-da-daaddee" though: although it's a controverisal opinion here still that he knows what it means...
Great post, really heart-warming :)
