Intense, Unswerving 'Resistance to Change'

Excuse my absence for the last 3 weeks or so. I don't think I mentioned that we started building work on the house the week before HRH went into hospital. Given that he then spent 8 weeks in hospital I had to make 3 months worth of decisions in 3 weeks. As you can imagine, it has been hectic around our house! We now have a new kitchen and more living space at the back of the house and we love it. HRH, well............children with autism are known for 'resistance to change'.

But fear not, I had a cunning plan up my sleeve. Rather than move his toys etc into the new room I decided to buy him a new toy. I could then introduce the 'new' item and quickly move it to the 'new' room, without upsetting him by moving his 'old' toys into the new space, until he got used to it. So how did that go??

Well, he loved the 'new' play tent, absolutely loved it. But, uummm.............see for yourself:

Yep, that is HRH pushing his 'new' tent back to the older part of the house, where it should be!! I have to admire his determination, he still can't walk but he didn't let that stop him. The problem has been resolved now. My 2 year old daugher nagged him, without mercy, for two days, until we finally reached this happy stage:

Love his determination! Glad to see him settled now in the new room and that you've finally got your renovations finished.

Hope all is going well.

Yep, that is one determined little boy. Hooray for siblings, eh? They always seem to come up with a way when we've exhausted all our efforts.

I'm glad you're back and to see HRH scooting around, hopefully on his way to walking again, is a great thing.

Happy New House! (to both of you!)

For a fella that's off his feet, he can fairly cover ground. Now where did his stubborn streak come from....? Delighted you're home and that the building is done.
On a completely unrelated note, I feckin love your kitchen XXX

Aww bless him! He reminds me *so* much of Max there, with his tousled hair, and the squeaks he does - just like my wee man too!
Glad to see he can get around ok! Here's to onwards and upwards! xxx

That's really funny...when we remodeled our kitchen, I had to compromise with Sammy..I told him that I would keep the old ugly one in storage until he was an adult and had his own house-then he could use it for himself. Oddly enough that worked. Glad to see you back..:)
Tagged you in a post...:)

It was such a good plan. Oh well.

He is such a cutie, by the way.

Glad it worked out in the end and great to see him respond to sisterly 'advice'!! Your kitchen looks amazing! Three years on and I STILL wallow in the extra space that our extension allows us. Enjoy your new extension:-)

Aw, poor little guy! I'm not too big on change, myself. Isn't it great when the siblings help out, unknowingly? My daughter often convinces my son (on the spectrum) to try new things.

Jen, it's sooooo good to hear from you! I'm glad that HRH is feeling good enough to put up a fight about the toyroom issue. Just so you know, my Tinkerbell watched the video with me, and she's on his side. I've had to explain all morning why someone would make a new toyroom and reassure her that we are NOT going to do that! Watch your back--HRH is building up some international allies!
